Summary: This position supports the University Career Center mission of providing students and alumni with programs and services to prepare them in career development and successful employment upon graduation.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. This position is subject to abide by the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student educational records.

Are you seeking an opportunity to enhance your leadership, communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills? If yes, then the Peer Career Advisor (PCA) role at UTEP is designed for you. As a PCA, you will assist your fellow UTEP Miners. Your role is to provide career information, resources, and referrals, and you will represent the Career Center at various university programs and functions across campus.
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

Qualifications
- No previous experience needed; training will be provided.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.
- Must demonstrate professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Should be classified as a freshman or sophomore.
- Must be a degree-seeking student in any college.
- Must submit to a background check.
- Ability to commit to work at least three semesters.
- Be enrolled full-time, with at least 12 hours during the fall and spring semesters.
- Be in good academic standing with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for undergraduate students at the Career Center, enhancing their understanding of available career planning resources.
- Assist students individually and in groups with various career-planning activities, such as résumé reviews, job search strategies, and interview preparation.
- Plan, schedule, and present workshops in the assigned college, working alongside a team of Peer Career Advisors and with the support of the Career Education Manager.
- Coordinate or assist with programming and outreach events, such as professional panels, internship panels, and networking events.
- Participate as a representative of the Career Center, supporting the Department's functions and programs, including career fairs.
- Promote and publicize Career Center events.
- Provide input and feedback to the Career Center professional staff regarding student needs and service/program/workshop requests.
- Assist with the recruitment and training of new Peer Career Advisors.
- Attend training sessions, meetings, and retreats as scheduled by the supervisor.
- Work closely with the Career Education and Training Coordinator.
- Assist with New Student Orientation, tabling events, and commencement survey efforts.
- Occasionally cover the front desk, answering phones, welcoming visitors, and providing general information.
- Occasional evening and weekend work.
- Comply with all State, Federal, and University policies.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
